Gaius Marcus Brumbaugh, M.S., M. D., was born in Penn Twp., Huntingdon Co., Pa., on the old homestead farm. He was educated in the Huntingdon Academy, Brethren’s Normal School and Juniata College, graduating from the latter institution in 1879. He also received the degrees of M. E. and M.§, from the same college in 1898. After teaching in public schools for several years he attended medical lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, and Howard University from which he was graduated in 1885 with the degree of M.D. He was also given the degree of M. D. from the Medical Department of Georgetown University in 1898.

In 1882 Dr. Brumbaugh moved to Washington, D. C., where he has held several positions under the United States Government, the last being Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Animal Industry. Since 1899 he has been a member of the Third Board U.8. Pension Examining Surgeons. For fourteen years Dr. Brumbaugh was lecturer on materia medica and therapeutics in the National Training School for Nurses (Sibley Hospital), but in 1911 he gave up this position with a number of other activities in order to devote more of his time to the completion of his large book, ‘‘Genealogy of the Brumbaugh Families,” which was published in 1913. In addition he has also published the following: ‘‘Lists of Swiss Emigrants in the Eighteenth Century to the American Colonies,” ‘Zurich to Carolina and Pennsylvania (1734-1744),” ““Maryland Records.”” Dr. Brumbaugh is also editor of the “National Genealogical Society Quarterly.” [B.
