In 1839 the Legislature of Pennsylvania chartered ‘‘The Hereford Silk Culture and Manufacturing Co.’’ The membership was limited to the members, to wit: Dr. Joel Y. Schelly, Dr. C. H. Dickenshied, Charles Hillegass, Edmund Y. Schelly, Joseph Beerer, Anthony Kraus, Nathan Kraus, Charles Gery, George Gery, and Abraham Schultz.

Dr. Schelly was born at Kreidersville, Northampton Co., Pa., Jan. 24, 1807. [C.Z. Weiser.]
