The following verses were composed by Eliza D. Rinewalt (afterwards the wife of Dr. Jacob Reazor), about twenty years ago, on her father’s family and transcribed for the Coventry friends, Jan. 15, 1861:
My father's in his seventieth year, My sister S [Sarah Wells] is getting old,
These twenty years he could not hear; I fear in death will soon be cold,
Although he hears no human voice, . Her spirit then to heaven will go,
The Lord still makes his heart rejoice. For she does her duty here below.
My mother died when I was young; My brother J [Jacob Rinewalt] to the South did go,
She felt that she was going home, And settled there in Mexico,
And then it was her earnest prayer And when he thought to us to come,
That she might meet her children there. It pleased the Lord to call him home.
My brother G [George Rinewalt] comes next in song, My brother A [Adam Rinewalt] is also gone,
To Indiana he has gone, And in New York he has his home,
And I think he there will stay, He is married to a lady fair, :
Until by death is called away. And now his family is his care.
My sister C [Catharine Supplee] was married young, My sister H [Hannah Supplee] is single yet,
And in her youth she left her home, But if the bachelor she does get,
To live with him who promised fair, I think ere long she will be joined,
In health and sickness for to share. I hope true happiness she may find.
My sister M [Mary Wessler] is far away, My sister L (Lydia Essick] has often said,
At home she would no longer stay, She thought that she would never wed,
The man she married would not rest, But now her mind is changed I see,
Until they settled in the West. And soon a preacher’s wife she'll be. And as I am the youngest one I think that I will stay at home, And live with father and sister 8, In the state of single blessedness. [Kindness of George Wanger.|
