[48-3] ROSINA NEUMAN, b 1737; d Mar. 16, 1804; dau Christopher and Susanna (Muehmer) Neuman [48-1a]; in 1756 she m HEINRICH SCHNEIDER, b Aug. 3, 1729; d Apr. 2, 1797; and settled in Gwynedd Twp., now Montg. Co., Pa. Heinrich Schneider was not in the good graces of father Neuman when he courted Rosina, because he was a member of the Lutheran Church. Tradition states that Heinrich eloped with Rosina and they were married by a Lutheran clergyman; upon learning of the elopement of his daughter, father Neuman is said to have exclaimed in German, “Ride, ride, he who ean ride. Henry has stolen my Rosa!”’ It is stated that after Schneider joined the Society of Schwenkfelders, father Neuman relented and forgave the eloping couple. It was by this means that the name of Schneider (Snyder) was introduced into the list of Schwenkfelder names. Heinrich Schneider was born in Germany and came to Pa., Aug. 30, 1749.
Children (11):
It has been impossible to trace all of the children of Heinrich and Rosina (Neuman) Schneider. The data in the old Genealogical Record was not complete as the name of Jacob was omitted.
In a release of 175 acres of land, signed Aug. 7, 1802, we find the following as children of Henry Schneider, releasing to John Schneider, a son:
Michael Rinewalt and Rosanna his wife of Towamencin.
George Schneider and Susanna his wife of Franconia.
Christopher Schneider, Cordwainer and his wife of Hatfield.
Henry Schneider and Regina his wife of Souderton.
Christian Schneider and Susanna his wife of Towamencin.
Abraham Wiegner, weaver, and Susanna, his wife of Worcester.
Jacob Schneider and his wife Eve of Worcester.
The same conveyed to Henry Schneider, on Feb. 29, 1760. [D. B. 19:202 Norristown.]
Thus it appears that John Schneider must have been married and secured the homestead, but it has been impossible to trace his family.
Again in the will of Christopher Schneider [48-6b] of Hatfield, probated on Aug. 10, 1810, he speaks of his beloved wife Mary; his five brethren and two sisters: ‘‘George, Henry, Christian, Jacob, John, Rosina Reinewald, Susanna Wiegner, and Baltzer Heidrig, George Heidrig, and Eve Krieble, brothers and sister of my first wife.”
