Yeakle came from Ober Harpersdorf, and was a brother of Barbara Yeakle Hartranft [E 134]. The name, Rosina Ott, as the wife of Matthias Yeakle in the Gen. Record of 1879, p. 13, is an error. See records of marriage in Harpersdorf Church Book, and entries of birth and death of their son George in Berthelsdorf Church Book. Matthias Yeakle and wife came to Pa. in 1734 with their children. Lived in Chestnut Hill. Place of burial not known.

Ch. Bk.]. David Seibt lived in Armenruh, Silesia, and came to Pa. in 1734 with his wife and children, and settled in Towamencin Twp., Montg. Co., Pa. [Plate F XV]. David Seibt was naturalized June 21, 1743. Both David Seibt and his wife are buried in Towamencin Schw. Cem. Schneider says that David Seibt went to America with three children, but we are able to account for only two. [E. E. S. J.]

In a letter dated 1774, George Kriebel states that Judith Reinwald Seibt had a sister Barbara, 80 years old [S. H. L.J. On Dec. 20, 1734 (0.S.), David Seibt wrote a letter to his brother in Germany, in which he describes the voyage to America, his impressions of Pennsylvania, the food, the clergy, things needed on the journey, etc. [S. No record of his owning land has been found, but it is likely that he lived in Towamencin Twp., as he is buried in Towamencin Schw. Cem. Rosina (Hoffman-Seibt) Yeakel is buried in Kraussdale Schw. Cem.

Caspar Seipt lived in Towamencin Twp., buying his father's homestead of 135 Acres in 1750. His will was written Dec. 8, 1773, in which he requested that his family should live together on the farm till his eldest son was of age, which did not occur until 1778, when the property was to be sold. All of his children were minors at the time of his death. The sum of twenty pounds each was left to the sons, David and Abraham; the residue was to be equally divided among all the children. His mother Judith, was to be supported free of charge; she died in 1775. His mother-in-law, Mary Yeakel, who lived in a separate house on the premises, was to have certain privileges. The widow and two brothers-in-law, John Yeakel and Baltzer Rinewalt, were made executors. In the assessment of 1776, Rosina Seipt was credited with 135 A., 3 houses, and 5 cows. [E. M.]

Anthony H. Seipt was born in Towamencin Twp., Montg. Co., Pa., and spent his early years on his father's farm. After receiving a limited education, he began a mercantile career by conducting a general country store at various places in Montg. Co. By reason of Mr. Seipt's remarkable energy, his business reached large proportions and in 1867 he sold out his store interests in Skippack, Pa., retiring from active mercantile life, in order to devote all his time to other interests.

In addition to his mercantile interests, Mr. Seipt was actively connected with progressive developments and improvements throughout the County. He was associated with the management of the Stony Creek R. R., and played a prominent part in the inception and development of the Perkiomen

R., serving as its president from 1867 to 1888, during which period it was highly successful. He also acted as director of various other corporations, for his keen judgment was a valuable asset to any pro-

ject, and he was much sought after in the management of financial enterprises. For many years, he served as a director of the Montgomery National Bank of Norristown, Pa., and was one of the organizers of the Montgomery Trust Co. in Norristown, acting as a director from its inception until the time of his death.

Mr. Seipt was a devout Schwenkfelder, and out of his wealth, he contributed liberally to various philanthropies and missions, usually without allowing the mentioning of his name. In fact, his modest and retiring disposition was one of his strongest traits of character. Although urged on account of his wide acquaintanceship to accept political honors, he could never be induced to permit his name to be presented.

Mr. Seipt always took a deep interest in promoting the activities of the Schwenkfelder organizations. He urged the collection and publication of the writings of Schwenkfeld and promised to make large contributions if all Schwenkfeld's writings would be collected and published. The outgrowth of these views is the present Corpus Schwenckfeldianorum. When he learned that Caspar Schwenkfeld's Bible could be purchased, he promptly bought it and thus made it possible for the "Schwenkfelder Society" to obtain it. The check given in payment of this Bible is preserved in the S. H. L. at Penns-burg. Being deeply interested in the preservation of the Schwenkfelder books and manuscripts, he at one time offered to erect a building to house these relics, but the plans were then not yet ready, and death overtook him before such a plan could be carried out. How he would rejoice to see the handsome fire-proof Library Building, which now houses these priceless relics!

Mr. Seipt likewise possessed a real sympathy for religious work outside of his own denomination. Among his effects were found documents showing that he had made large missionary contributions of which the public was not aware. He was a faithful attendant at church services as long as his health permitted and upon his death, the Church lost a firm and steadfast member.

Henry K. Gerhard was a school teacher for ten years; later he followed the trade of carpenter. For many years he was a trustee of the Schwenkfelder Church. He was also one of the charter members of the Board of Trustees of Perkiomen Seminary. He was always deeply interested in education and church matters, and in his later years it was his delight to give of his time and energy in building up Perkiomen Seminary. As a mechanic he contributed many hours of his services gratuitously for the renovating of the school buildings. Many of his text books and school books are preserved in the Historical Library at Pennsburg, Pa.

Co., Pa. He acquired his early education in the Palm and in the Schultzville Independent District Schools. From 1876 to 1911 he successfully followed farming as a career at Clayton, Pa., where he now resides (1922). For twenty-one years he was General Manager of the Clayton Butter and Cheese Company, and for many years he has served as a director of the National Bank of Boyertown. He served two terms as a deacon in the Upper District Schwenk-felder Church and for twelve years was manager of the Sunday School. He also served as a member of the Building Committee when the Palm church was erected in 1909-1910. In his several official positions in connection with the public highways, he was instrumental in securing some of the first state roads for his district.

Josiah Kriebel Gerhard was born in Upper Hanover Twp., Montgomery Co., Pa. After attending the public schools of his native twp., he became a student at the Academic Institute at Trappe, Pa., conducted by the late Prof. Abel Rambo [74-306], and also at the West Chester (Pa.) State Normal School. He taught several terms of school both in Upper Hanover and Worcester Twps., Pa.

While engaged in teaching, Mr. Gerhard started to study medicine with the late Dr. George K. Meschter [66-14], after which he entered the Medical Department of the University of Penna., from which he was graduated in 1882. He immediately formed a partnership with his former preceptor, and they together built up a large and lucrative practice; this partnership continued until the untimely death of Dr. Gerhard, which occurred on April 16, 1886, after a two weeks' illness of typhoid pneumonia. Being an exceedingly industrious and conscientious practitioner, Dr. Gerhard was very successful in his short professional career, and had many warm friends.

Seipt is a graduate of the West Chester (Pa.) State Normal School, and the University of Pa., receiving the degrees of B. A. in 1900, M. A. in 1903, and Ph.D. in 1906. His dissertation for his Doctor's degree was entitled "The First Printed Hymn-Book of the Schwenkfelders and its Sources." He has served as instructor of German in the Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Kansas, and for a time was Superintendent of Schools in Cass County, Minn.

Dr. Seipt rendered invaluable service in helping to establish the Schwenkfelder Sunday School Mission in Phila., serving as Superintendent of the Sunday School from 1897 to 1906. For a number of years he also was Assistant Editor of "The Schwenkfeldian."

Rev. Albert E. Funk was pastor of the First Mennonite Church of Phila. from 1874 to 1881, and General Secretary of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (whose headquarters are at 690 Eighth Ave., N. Y.) for twenty-five years, 1890-1915. Both Mr. and Mrs. Funk were Superintendents of the Missionary Training Institute of the C. & M. Alliance from 1898 to 1915. Mr. Funk is at present (1919) Financial Secretary of the C. & M. Alliance. He also was pastor of the German Branch of the Gospel Tabernacle Church, New York City, from its establishment in 1886 to the present (1919).
