Judge John Faber Miller was born in Abington Township, Pa., the son of the late William G. Miller and Caroline J. Roberts, and was the second of eight children. His ancestors have continuously resided in that which is now Montgomery county since the earliest Colonial times, and include, on his father’s side, commissioned officers in the French and Indian and Revolutionary wars, as well as the distinguished clergymen, the John Theobald Fabers, father and son, who in the early days were pastors at Old Goshenhoppen, New Goshenhoppen and Great Swamp for a period of nearly fifty years. Judge Miller’s earliest American maternal ancestor came to Pennsylvania in the ship Welcome with William Penn.

His boyhood was spent on a farm in Whitpain township where he attended the district schools. Later he was a student at the Friends’ Preparatory Schools at Gwynedd and Philadelphia, and at the University of Pennsylvania. After receiving his degree he was admitted to the bars of both Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties, then to those of the Appellate and Federal Courts. He is nowa member of the County, State and National Bar Associations.

Judge Miller began the practice of law in Norristown in 1892 where he built up an extensive business. During the last three years of his practice he held the appointment of County Solicitor. His record was one of the best ever made in that office, and has been publicly commended in the annual reports of the County Comptroller and elsewhere. The death of Judge Weand left a vacancy on the bench which Judge Miller was asked to fill by the Governor. Because of his capability he was again elected to that office for a full term of ten years in 1915. Judge Miller is a member of numerous clubs, and is president of the Plymouth Country Club.
