Christopher Master lived in Union Twp., Berks Co., Pa., was a blacksmith; signed his name to a release as ‘Christopher Meschter.”” He is said to haye gone to Canada, but, according to the

late Dr. J. L. Masters of Indianapolis, Christopher Master went to Indiana in 1833. Upon his arrival there he was called ‘“‘Christopher Masters,’” but did not write the s to his name until about 1840. After that he signed his name ‘‘Masters’’ more and more, until he finally wrote it thus almost always. All his descendants write their names as “Masters.”

In 1810, Daniel Yocom lived in Unity Twp., Berks Co., Pa. W. A. Y. says he later resided near Pottstown, Pa. Data regarding the Yocom family was supplied to W. A. Yeakle, Feb. 24, 1882, by son and daughter of Isaac Yocom per ‘‘Sallie J. Yocom.’’ According to letter of John Master, dated Oct. 1, 1878, Isaac, Samuel and Daniel Yocom live near Douglassville, Pa. [Impossible to obtain further or more recent data.]

[48-11] JOHN MASTER, bd June 22, 1783; d Jan. 16, 1852; s Christopher and Christina (Yeakel) Meschter [43-1]; m Feb. 21 (24), 1804, ELIZABETH DeHAVEN; d Dec. 5, 1864. John Master always wrote his name without the s. Some of his children followed his example, while others spelled the name Masiers. He moved to Indiana in 1819. [J. L. M.]
