Children (6):
In 1782, Melchior Schultz [69b] in his will mentions:
(a) “Barbara Mayerin, daughter of Rosina Hartranft.”
(b) ‘‘Maria Mayerin, youngest daughter of Melchior Hartranft.”’
(ec) “The four youngest children -of Abraham Hartranft; Abraham, Barbara, Maria, Wilhelm.”
(d) ‘‘The heirs of my wife, the children of her deceased three brothers and sisters, George Hartranft, Abraham Hartranft, Melchior Hartranft, Melchior Hartranft, and Rosina Hartranft.
(e) Children of the above named George, Abraham, and Melchior Hartranft, and of Rosina Frosch or her children.”
He says he sold his ‘‘Plantashe”’ and all his land in Hereford Twp. to his brother, Christopher Schultz and his eldest son, Andrew Schultz. [S. H. L.]
The editor has been unable to trace the daughter, Rosina Hartranft, beyond the fact that she married a man named Frosch.
According to the late Gov. John F. Hartranft the name “‘Hartranft” was formed from two names :— “Hart” and ‘“‘Ragenfrid.” The first was the given name and the latter the family name, and becoming too cumbersome when set together, the name was abbreviated to Ranft, Ranf, Ranfd, Ranph and Ranft.
